Paul Marriett, Chicago Personal Injury Attorney

Paul Marriett is an Illinois trial lawyer with deep roots in Northern Illinois and meaningful professional ties to Chicago. He grew up in a proud IBEW union household, graduated from Rockford Public Schools, attended Rock Valley College, and earned B.A. degrees in Philosophy and Political Science, with a minor in Religious Studies, from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. Paul received his Juris Doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville, Florida, and completed his final semester at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago.

What Paul is most proud of in his legal education is his training as a trial lawyer. He is a graduate of the inaugural class of the Gerry Spence Method Trial Program at Thunderhead Ranch in Dubois, Wyoming — widely regarded as one of the most demanding and respected trial advocacy programs in the country. Paul also maintains active professional memberships with the Illinois State Bar Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys.

Paul’s legal career began in Chicago, where he prosecuted orders of protection and no-contact orders against violent offenders through the Cook County Domestic Violence Legal Clinic at the Harrison Street Courthouse. That experience placed him in court regularly, advocating for people facing real and immediate danger, and gave him early exposure to the realities of practicing law in Cook County.

After Chicago, Paul worked as a staff attorney at North Florida Legal Services in Panama City, Florida, representing individuals and families in divorce, custody, guardianships, adoptions, probate matters, and claims arising from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Those cases involved tens of thousands of people and businesses who suffered devastating financial and personal losses — and they reinforced Paul’s commitment to representing individuals, not institutions.

Paul opened his first law office in 2013. While the practice initially focused on criminal defense matters — including traffic offenses, DUI cases, and serious felony charges — it was representing his first injured plaintiff, and continuing his training through the Trial Lawyers College, that clarified where he could make the greatest difference. Standing up to corporations and insurance companies on behalf of injured people became the clear focus of his work.

Today, Paul concentrates his practice on serious personal injury and workers’ compensation cases. He represents people and families during some of the most difficult periods of their lives — when they are dealing with surgeries, physical therapy, chronic pain, lost income, permanent injuries, or the death of a loved one. His role is not limited to paperwork and phone calls. He shows up.

There are stories people hear about lawyers visiting clients in hospitals, attending medical appointments, going to homes and job sites, or inspecting injury scenes with investigators. Paul and his team do those things because they matter. They lead to stronger cases, better preparation for trial, and ultimately better outcomes for the people who depend on him.

Over the course of his career, Paul has helped thousands of people throughout Northern Illinois — including Cook County — in matters ranging from straightforward injury claims to complex wrongful death lawsuits against large, well-funded corporations. He remains a Winnebago County resident, is married, and has three energetic children, along with a yellow Labrador and a Boston Terrier. Helping injured people is not a marketing angle for him — it is the work he chose to do.

Outside of court and client work, Paul regularly shares trial-focused legal education materials with other lawyers, publishes injury-law content, and participates in conversations and training sessions aimed at improving advocacy and maximizing client outcomes. When time allows, he spends it outdoors with his family, visiting national parks, hiking extensively, and staying active in charitable and community organizations.

Because of his training through the Gerry Spence Method, Paul intentionally keeps a limited number of active cases. Serious injury and wrongful death cases demand time, attention, and complete focus. They cannot be handled the way high-volume firms handle minor claims. These cases require investigation, preparation, and a willingness to take a case to trial when necessary.

For Paul, effective representation goes far beyond knowing medical records and accident reports. It means understanding how an injury has altered a person’s daily life, relationships, work, and sense of stability — and being able to explain that impact clearly and honestly to a jury.

Paul is always willing to speak with anyone about an injury — whether it involves a motor vehicle crash, workplace incident, or harm caused by negligence. He is available directly at (815) 964-8303 and welcomes calls, texts, or messages at any time.
